GREEN FINANCE EDUCATION SUMMIT 2020

Green Finance Education Summit

Skills for the Future of Finance

Friday, 29th May, 2020

Chartered Accountants’ Hall, One Moorgate Place, London, EC2R 6EA

About

The UK Government, the Green Finance Institute, and leading UK-based finance professional bodies are hosting the first Green Finance Education Summit on Friday 29th May 2020 at the Chartered Accountants’ Hall in London. The Summit forms part of the UK Government’s ‘Pathway to COP26’, a series of events leading to the global climate summit in Glasgow in November.

Meeting the objectives of the Paris Agreement means that green finance must become the mainstream of finance. There is an increasing need for the finance sector globally to develop new capabilities through relevant education and training in green finance principles and practice.

Finance professions, including accountants, actuaries, bankers, financial analysts, and risk managers, are fundamental to the definition and integration of both professional and technical standards across the financial system. This is the case for green finance too. UK-based Chartered and professional bodies alone represent more than one million professionals and are a critically important lever for greening finance and aligning capital flows with the Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The summit is an opportunity for the finance professions to come together and shape the skills necessary for the future of finance. Attendees will include representatives from across UK and international finance professional bodies, as well as senior practitioners, educators, and students. The summit will have sessions on evolving demand for green finance skills, how to mainstream green finance, and presentations on new green finance courses and curricula, as well as keynote speeches and contributions from leading figures in green finance.

The event will mark the public launch of the Green Finance Education Charter, which was outlined in the UK’s Green Finance Strategy in July 2019. The Charter is a significant commitment from Chartered and professional bodies in the UK and internationally, to integrate green finance and sustainability into their core curriculums, new qualifications, and the continued professional development of their members.
