Green Finance Institute CEO addresses the annual BNP Paribas Global Markets Conference

Dr. Rhian-Mari Thomas OBE, Chief Executive of the Green Finance Institute, joined a distinguished panel of speakers at the fourth annual BNP Paribas Global Markets Conference in London, which focused on the key trends impacting the investment community.

Other participants who spoke at this year’s event included The Rt. Hon.Philip Hammond, Former Chancellor of the Exchequer; Matteo Renzi, Former Italian Prime Minister; Luis de Guindos, Vice President of the European Central Bank; General John F. Kelly, Former White House Chief of Staff; and His Excellency Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Dr. Thomas’s keynote addressed the investment opportunity presented by the fourth industrial revolution, powered by the transition to clean energy. She specifically pointed to the need for the investment community to consider how its investments impact decarbonisation and how it actively channels capital to finance the changes needed in the real economy.

She further commented on the nature of market disruption and the market correction that could result from the current mispricing of climate risk and also mentioned the role of the Green Finance Institute in accelerating the mainstreaming of green finance.
